SYNTHETIC DYE

Red 3

What it is

A petroleum dye the FDA moved to revoke in January 2025, decades after banning it in cosmetics.

Why your biology objects

It was pulled because it caused cancer in lab animals (the Delaney Clause forbids any food additive shown to do so). Manufacturers have until 2027 to reformulate, so it's still legally on shelves today — present tense, not old stock.
